Personnel: Prof. Craig Lundstrom

Overview: The experimental petrology lab has a variety of high temperature and pressure devices allowing for simulation of PT conditions in magmatic and metamorphic systems along with all necessary preparation items including arc and gas welding and automatic polishing equipment.

Instrumentation:

  • 2 piston cylinder apparatus capable of pressures of 50 kbar and temperatures up to 2000°C
  • A system of cold seal vessels for pressures up to 4 kbar and 1200°C
  • 3 one-atmosphere furnaces up to 1600°C
