I am a graduate student working with Dr Jenny Druhan in quantifying the effects of non-uniform flow on reaction rates and isotope fractionation. My hypothesis is that isotope ratios are more sensitive to the effects of heterogeneity than corresponding concentrations. Ultimately, I would like to be able to answer this question that can we use isotope values instead of concentrations to better constrain the heterogeneity of the subsurface.
I am studying the role of physical heterogeneity of the porous media on Cr isotope fractionations. My research involves a series of batch reactors, flow through experiments and lots of modelling! In order to better understand the non-uniform flow paths, I am using a PET scanner to visualize the progression of the tracer in my columns in real time.
Whenever I am not working, I like to swim, travel and watch documentaries.
